'''
I am thinking of buying BC for online purchases and have decided on perhaps going with Binance but after trying to place an order of 75 Euro worth of Bitcoin it tells me to give them pictures of ID's and stuff, I was just wondering if it was safe to actually give out all this info to Simplex/Binance? Also, since this is my first time I don't really know what I am doing to be honest.

Why Ethereum Problems Make UMI the Flagship Among the New Generation Cryptocurrencies

Why Ethereum Problems Make UMI the Flagship Among the New Generation Cryptocurrencies

https://preview.redd.it/8skuypxp9lj51.jpg?width=1023&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba5a38ba592428f92dc7c1943a780ff127132875
Ethereum cryptocurrency that comes second in terms of capitalization on the crypto market is traditionally seen as fast and profitable. However, over the last few weeks it's had a rough patch. Since early August, the network has had huge queues of transactions pending processing while fees have skyrocketed and surpassed the historical high.
The main issue though is that even fees of a few dollars per transfer don't help get rid of the“traffic jams”. The cause of this is numerous DeFi projects and a huge number of financial pyramids based on the Ethereum platform. Both generate excessive load on the network.
The situation is downright unpleasant, and our users might question whether the UMI network could face a similar challenge? We'd like to assure you it could not. The UMI network is by default protected against these problems — it cannot have “traffic jams”, fees or financial pyramids. But first things first.
How has the Ethereum network ground to a halt?
In its report dated August 4, Arcane Research that provides analysis within the field of cryptocurrency stated that over the previous week the daily size of transaction fees in the Ethereum network has surged up to a record high for over two and a half years. On August 3, the median value #%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%80_%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B7%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F)of the fee amounted to $0.82, with the overall amount of transaction fees totaling $2 mln. However, it only signaled the start of real problems.
Over the next week, fees continued to grow and by August 11 the median fee value almost doubled equaling $1.57. Larry Cermak, an expert at a big analytical and news-making crypto portal The Block, wrote in his August 15 tweet that over a week the total amount of transaction fees in the Ethereum network totaled $34.5 mln, having surpassed its historical high. Meanwhile, in the Bitcoin network that is seen as too expensive the fees were almost four times lower at $9 mln.
The total fee amount paid by cryptocurrency users over a week:
  • Ethereum — $34.5 mln;
  • Bitcoin — $9 mln;
  • Monero — $2,240;
  • Tezos — $1,876;
  • Cardano — $1,615;
  • XRP — $1,138;
  • BSV — $1,102;
  • Stellar — $1,059;
  • Bitcoin Cash — $1,027;
  • UMI — $0. Let's talk about it a little later.

Historical Growth Chart for Ethereum Fees. Source
The existing situation shows that Ethereum is actually not as fast and profitable as commonly cited. Additionally, this could happen to almost any cryptocurrency except UMI that charges no fees whatsoever. We will tell you why.
Why have these problems emerged?
There is nothing unoriginal: the Ethereum network simply can't handle an increased load. Arcane Research analysts consider that a principal cause of this situation is the constantly increasing number of the DeFi ecosystem projects built on the Ethereum blockchain. Their number is growing all the time which causes the overload of the network. As of August 12, the total amount of funds in DeFi applications reached $4.3 billion which is 19.5% higher than that in the past week. At the time of writing this article, the amount surged to $6.21 billion. You can see the current data here. What is the most unpleasant about DeFi protocols is that a lot of them are scam projects.
Which is not the worst part though. There is also another factor that significantly slows down the Ethereum network. There are a lot of pyramid-like projects that are built on the EOS platform and use smart contracts. One of them is SmartWay Forsage, which regularly overloads the network with a large number of transactions, causes traffic jams, and, consequently, leads to increased fees (keep in mind that Ethereum miners choose transactions with a higher commission). Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, revealed his disapproval of the SmartWay Forsage methodology and asked them to "leave and not pollute Ethereum ecology in the future". However, the project is slow to do this — it continues to deceive users.
This is only the tip of the iceberg of scam projects which abounds on the EOS network –– they continually emerge, work for a while, then go down as scams and are replaced with new ones. This never-ending stream of "investment projects" based on the Ponzi scheme overloads the system. This is the reason why Adam Back, a pioneer of the crypto industry and founder of the technology company Blockstream, equated Ethereum with such infamous projects as Onecoin and Bitconnect. Adam Back's solid dig at Ethereum became the subject of much debate among crypto enthusiasts.
Of course, it all doesn't mean that Ethereum is a bad cryptocurrency. On the contrary, it has a lot of advantages over other coins. But all that has happened exposes Ethereum's faults which must be eliminated. The problem is that they may not be fixable. It is far from certain that the developers will be able to get rid of all the defects as the system has huge scalability problems.
The crypto community has to admit that Ethereum, like other first-generation cryptocurrencies, has issues with capacity, fees, and scalability and is gradually becoming obsolete.
2020 is the time for young innovative cryptocurrencies such as UMI.
UMI is the flagship of new-generation cryptocurrencies.
In real fact, any cryptocurrency could face it. Each cryptocurrency charges fees which typically surge when the network is overloaded or the price is going up. Everyone will remember 2017 when in line with price growth and the network's overload Bitcoin transaction fee reached a high of around $40.
But when it comes to UMI, it works the other way round. The UMI network's advantages are high capacity, no fees, and scaling possibilities. It uses the best and fastest crypto industry solutions and excludes all inefficient methods by default. Smart optimization in combination with the Proof-of-Authority technology operating on the master node basis enables almost instant payments.
At the stage of network testing, an incredibly high capacity was achieved:
  • up to 4,369 transactions per second;
  • up to 262,140 transactions per minute;
  • up to 15,728,400 transactions per hour;
  • up to 377,481,600 transactions per day.
Ethereum processes about 20 transactions per second. It means that the UMI network can process transactions that Ethereum processes over a year in 1 to 5 days — and with no fees.
https://preview.redd.it/rwohnov3alj51.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=4329b75c0bd8b7a22276b529f5ca433d17a0874f
The UMI network can process transactions that Ethereum processes over a year in a few days and with no fees. More details
What is more important is that less than 0.001% of the network's overall potential is used now. The UMI network has a lot of reserve capacity and can handle hundreds of thousands of times heavier load. Moreover, with scaling possibilities, UMI can keep up with the times. The UMI code ensures the safe introduction of any upgrades — the network can be easily modified and scaled with cutting edge technology solutions. In other words, traffic jams will never pose a problem for us. UMI will instantly process all transactions, with no fees. Always.

A real-time speedometer displays the number of transactions processed by the UMI network per second. Link
Additionally, unlike Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies, the UMI's staking smart contract prevents possibilities of any pyramid schemes, meaning eliminates their negative influence. Our staking is completely safe and secured against scammers. Read more about this in our article. Any UMI staking structure could work forever. In other words, you can multiply your coins at a rate of up to 40% per month for an indefinitely long period of time.
UMI doesn't inherit the disadvantages of the first-generation cryptocurrencies. This is an innovative, carefully designed network based on state-of-the-art technologies. UMI is an ambitious step toward the future. And we're making it together right now!
Sincerely yours, UMI team

Market News
The economic impact of the global lockdown continues to be felt around the world. A further 5.2 million Americans filed for unemployment, according to the US Labour Department, taking the total to just over 22 million for the month and wiping out a decade of employment gains.
Bitcoin dropped to a two week low as the price neared $6400, with many speculating that it would breach the $6,000 level. However, bears were left disappointed as Bitcoin surged and almost reached $7,200. We will be watching the price for an upside break to $7,400. As expected, due to their high correlations other cryptoassets followed suit, with Ethereum, Chainlink and Binance Coin staging strong rebounds.
The price of gold reached a 7-year high as the price peaked to over $1,740 before falling again to the $1,680 region. The sharp pullback in prices came as the dollar was firmly higher, providing some resistance to the asset’s recent climb. Bulls’ next upside price objective will be a close in June futures above the solid resistance level of $1,750. Meanwhile, the price of oil continues to face severe pressure. Crude oil once again found itself beneath the $20 level, which placed additional stress on the stock market.
The S&P 500, which gained more than 12% last week, has shown relative inconsistency as prices surged and fell throughout this week. Markets closed on Thursday partially higher than the week prior. U.S. futures on Friday will be heavily influenced by President Trump’s announcement as he details plans to reopen the U.S. economy.

Few thoughts about Brave & BAT

BAT (brave browser token) is seriously slept on, hear me out.
  1. Brave is the most popular crypto application, gaining serious traction lately, these numbers are impressive: https://batgrowth.com/
  2. In many ways, a browser can and in most cases are an entry point to the internet, its not unreasonable to think that a browser could position itself as the entry point to crypto for millions of users.
  3. There are many advantages of being the entry point for a huge chunk of users, for example, how does a wallet addon survive if Brave creates its own native noncustodial wallet? How about a Dex.. The list goes on. The guy who controls the entry point has a lot of power. No one is positioned better than Brave in that regard.
  4. The BAT token is slowly being integrated all over, no other similar token is even close. Once they reach a certain level of adoption it will be extremely difficult for anyone to compete. Similarly to how social media platforms have a lock on their segment, the users themselves become a huge incentive and growth driver.
  5. Brave browser has a truly revolutionary element to it, users can earn real money by allowing ads. Not only that users can choose to donate/reward their favorite content creators directly, either auto or manually. No one else does it, the closest anyone has ever come to something similar is rewarding a few % worth of coupons.
  6. Brave users can earn serious money, you can earn more by browsing the web than what the poorest 1billion of people on earth earn by working. Think about that for a second. (You would have to exclusively browse brave verified websites, but with so many publishers joining I frequently land on sites that are verified)
  7. Brave also has a powerful and honorable mission, to protect user's privacy and remove the status quo with massive privacy-intrusive practices of selling users data. Something that is slowly becoming a mainstream concern.
  8. The Bat token has several very healthy mechanics that could see it take off. First of all, every advertiser would have to buy the Bat token to pay for their ads to be displayed. This creates volume and continuous demand.
  9. But what many fail to realize is that with BAT there will be a MUCH larger loss of coins than any other crypto, millions of people having various devices where they have earned a few Bat, they lose their phone, forget about the wallet.. They haven't paid for anything, they may not even know it could become valuable. No idea how to estimate the numbers yearly but it has to be a ridiculous amount of tokens that exit circulation.
  10. If Brave continues to grow, BAT could take on new lifeforms. It would be the cryptocurrency most people have available at their fingertips. It would make sense for all sorts of merchants to start accepting it. Especially those merchants that sell inexpensive services such as VPN, domains, streaming and so forth. Brave could also incorporate scheduled billing easily, ability to swap to/from other tokens, lend out Bat, Loan Bat, all defi.
  11. Brave might become one of the most important entry points as outlined above, that would give huge incentives for other projects to accommodate and cater to BAT holders, similarly to how Binance, for example, enables airdrops and various incentives given to their costumers Brave could also encourage new partners to create advantages and perks for BAT.
  12. BAT protocol is separated from Brave, so other browsers and unaffiliated tech could join the ecosystem and instantly gain value from the already widespread existing use of BAT. Its a genius by Brave to have structured it this way imo, it drastically increases the chances that BAT could become the default "attention token".
  13. If Bat accomplishes its goal, it will see a Bitcoin-like growth in value, in fact, it could bc of its unique positioning/angle overtake and become more widely used than bitcoin itself. We could also speculate that the BAT wallet ultimately would allow for Bitcoin atomic swaps, enabling users to earn Bitcoins or Eth instead of BAT if they choose. (With a slight penalty or burn I would assume)

Weekly Wrap 03/04

Market News
In the earlier part of the week, Bitcoin broke down to the $5800 level but managed to successfully close back above $6400. As expected, we eventually saw a move to the $7200 level that was followed by a swift rejection. Recent CME data released indicates that large-sized traders doubled down on their 2020 short positions between $8200 and $10,700. We are thus expecting the $8000 region to act as a large resistance level in the future.
In a new report, Binance Research found a ‘moderate’ positive correlation between Bitcoin and US equities during the first quarter of 2020, with neither being correlated to gold. Amongst their findings was the conclusion that despite Bitcoin displaying a positive correlation with US equities, this correlation coefficient remains unlikely to persist in the medium to long term as it was merely a result of global investors' flight to liquidity across all asset classes in the wake of COVID-19. This is positive news for investors who continue to use cryptoasset investments for diversification purposes.
Global markets are also up following Trump’s comments that crude oil production will likely be cut back. The announcement sent Brent crude levels up by over 25%. The move comes as oil was already climbing after Beijing instructed government agencies to start buying cheap crude for its strategic reserves.

Nexus Business Development Q&A with Alex El-Nemer 30 August 2019

alexelmo [3:01 PM]
Hey @here Ill be around for the next hour or so to answer any questions you have about the UK Embassy and Business development. Alot of people have already sent questions privately so I will answer those first as I imagine many will be similar to others. Fire away!
belgianboy [3:02 PM]
Oke Alex that would be nice
David Walliams [3:02 PM]
How are you Alex?
alexelmo [3:03 PM]
Very well thanks @David Walliams
You?
David Walliams [3:03 PM]
Good thank you. How’s it be going on the business development side?
alexelmo [3:04 PM]
Very well. We've been working hard and its all starting to come together
Ok, heres the first question someone asked and my response
Q1 - What's the typical size of use cases that you talk to - startup/small/medium/large?
A1 - Over the past year we have talked to a large variety of businesses. From some of the largest businesses in the world, to companies looking to start a new business exclusively building on our blockchain technology:
Start ups: Researching which platform to build their new business on (a big decision). The Nexus APIs help here, they differentiate us from blockchains in which a specific coding language needs to be learnt (E.g. Ethereum’s Solidarity).
SMEs: looking into blockchain to see if it can provide operation efficiencies to suit their existing systems
Large: Large Fortune 500 companies - wishing to explore blockchain in a very specific area, or Proof of Concept / pilot deployments. (edited)
Q2 - Are you seeing more inquiries/leads/interest from one size category vs another?
A2 - Not particularly, we talk to as many interesting companies as possible and get a good reception across the board. Most of the companies which we have had discussions with are medium to large sized businesses, as they tend to have a greater capacity to explore innovative technologies such as blockchain. (edited)
CaptainMAD [3:07 PM]
Hi Alex, do Nexus have anything in the pipeline in regards to advertising (besides social media) once main net goes live?
David Walliams [3:08 PM]
wow new business who want to build on nexus exclusively sounds very cool
alexelmo [3:10 PM]
@CaptainMAD Social media will drive a large amount og our outreach. However we are also reaching our to our networks in the media to promote the tritium update and its benefit to the wider blockchain space. We are also exploring PR agency options (edited)
David Walliams [3:10 PM]
is nexus project still engaged with UK pr firm? I think you mentioned them long ago
Márcio [3:11 PM]
@alexelmo Could you tell us in quantitative terms how many projects currently intend to use NXS both publicly and privately?
CaptainMAD [3:12 PM]
@alexelmo Thanks
alexelmo [3:13 PM]
Q3 - What is a pitch deck? What format do you use? What sort of things are included in yours?
A3 - Our first meeting will typically be a presentation, which takes place via Google Hangouts and Slides. The initial Nexus intro presentation discusses the following characteristics of Nexus: speed, scalability, LISP, API integration, digital currency element, security.
These are discussed in comparison to the other major enterprise providers: Hyperledger, Ethereum, Quorum etc…
Márcio [3:14 PM]
@alexelmo In terms of the timeline, when will we actually start to have something built on NXS? How is the case with SoundVaudt? Is this our biggest and most important business case yet?
alexelmo [3:19 PM]
@Márcio Unfortunately we cannot discuss any potential deals, as it could be considered to be done with the intent to affect the price of NXS. If and when a use case is made public via a press release, then we will be able to discuss in detail with you all - assuming our contract with the use case permits.
Márcio [3:19 PM]
ok, thanks
belgianboy [3:24 PM]
How many nda's? How many compagnies talking with? Wich sector you focus thé most on? Wich sector asks Nexus thé most for help with thé blockchain. What are thé internal targets for business development? What's your personal best experience while doing this?
Is there much interest? While Nexus is still unknow, do compagnies know it? And know what thé 3dc can do and everything that is shown in thé zoomcalls?
How do you see thé Future for Nexus and its business development progress?
alexelmo [3:26 PM]
@Dawca_Mocy could you clarify the question a little?
@Márcio The possibility to build anything on live code, until now, has been limited by the main net activation. Currently Dino has built a number of demos in test net to showcase the potential of the Nexus blockchain use cases.
With regards to SoundVault, we still have a great working relationship with them, and continue to explore blockchain applications within the music industry.
Following the release of the main net, businesses will have the opportunity to build on Nexus, and check out the live running code. (edited)
David Walliams [3:29 PM]
I noticed there is a student focused use case demo - did the business development side reach out to any universities about the nexus project?
alexelmo [3:37 PM]
Q4 - How many nda's? How many companies talking with? Which sector you focus the most on? Which sector asks Nexus the most for help with the blockchain.
A4 - The first meeting is an introduction meeting, telling them about Nexus and see if there is interest from the other side. If there is interest, a follow up meeting will be arranged - for this follow up we typically get an NDA signed prior to the meeting. This is to protect the business’ idea, and also any of their sensitive information about say how their internal systems operate and also that they are looking into blockchain.
This NDA essentially means that Nexus cannot state in any medium, the name of the firm, or provide any detailed information on their business practices or details of the use case which they are exploring with us, to any other party. It also protects Nexus - we provide details on the 3DC for example, which is sensitive information which we do not want being shared with other blockchain providers.
As of today, we have signed approximately 50 NDAs with prospective businesses. Essentially this means that we have had a second/third meeting with 50+ different organisations. These organisations are typically based in either the UK or the US, with a few dotted around Europe. To provide a brief overview of the sectors in order of most frequently occurring: Supply chain/logistics tracking, music and IP, consulting, finance, education, insurance and ad-hock.
David Walliams [3:39 PM]
wow that's like 50 days worth of twitter announcements if they all work out :crossed_fingers:
ej [3:44 PM]
This is all very exciting news
belgianboy [3:44 PM]
What is ad-hock?
alexelmo [2 hours ago]
those not in that list
belgianboy [2 hours ago]
Ok thanks!
David Walliams [3:45 PM]
any universities alex?
alexelmo [2 hours ago]
There have been conversations in the education space (as per Q4) (edited)
belgianboy [3:46 PM]
Are those smalle compagnies or multi billion ones?
alexelmo [2 hours ago]
See above Question 1
belgianboy [2 hours ago]
Ok
alexelmo [3:47 PM]
Q5 - Is there much interest in Nexus? While Nexus is still unknown, do companies know it? And know what the 3dc can do and everything that is shown in the zoomcalls?
A5 - Yes, there is a great interest from those who truly understand blockchain technology.
Nexus is still growing in terms of its recognition, but we do see ourselves as a respected player within the enterprise space, much of this has come through positive word of mouth and Blockchain Working Group events here in the UK in which the major players have learned about us and heard of our unique features. We are building a strong reputation in the business community which is a very positive sign.
With regards to the 3DC - the technology is far beyond anything else we have come across, and many businesses agree with this statement. We can happily report that senior tech employees (CTOs) at large companies, have been greatly impressed with the quality and complex depth of Nexus’ technology.
ej [3:51 PM]
Thanks for all this, Alex
ej [3:52 PM]
Excellent work
paulscreen [3:52 PM]
Yup this is gold!!
Kendal Cormany [3:52 PM]
Good job
alexelmo [3:53 PM]
Q6 - What does an initial meeting typically go like? Do you pitch Nexus and its features first, or do you start by learning what the use case is trying to achieve and then talk about how Nexus can fit that?
A6 - The style of the first meeting really depends on the individual(s) whom the meeting is with and our prior knowledge of the company itself. If our contact at the organisation is a business focused individual (which is almost always the case given that our contacts are in this area) then we will discuss the following:
  1. Nexus history
  2. Our features - speed, scalability, LISP, API integration, digital currency element, security. These are discussed in comparison to the other major enterprise providers: Hyperledger, Ethereum, Quorum etc…
  3. How they could best utilise the technology to benefit their business as a whole (improved speed, transparency, efficiency, fraud reduction, regulatory reporting).
Following the above topics, a follow up meeting is arranged. A technical employee from the other company will usually attend this. Typically Colin or Dino will attend the meeting to discuss the Nexus technicals in much greater detail. The following topics are discussed:
  1. Technical comparisons with other blockchains (Why Nexus Contacts > normal Smart Contracts)
  2. How to integrate with existing systems (Nexus API > Complex Coding languages)
  3. Discussions around the best way to possibly start with the use case (run in parallel to existing systems, private vs public blockchain)
  4. Complex technical questions
If our contact at the business is technical (CTO for example) then Colin or Dino will typically attend the first meeting, alongside Myself or Brian, and this intro meeting will be more technically focused. In essence we adapt to whom the meeting is with.
Following meetings will be tailored to their specific company / requirements. We do like to be as tailored as possible early on though, to differentiate from the other providers whom generally look to just sell a fixed product. (edited)
pdogg147 [3:53 PM]
Yes thanks for providing some details @alexelmo
alexelmo [3:55 PM]
Q7 - What about subsequent meetings? Do you have a standard pitch presentation or are they tailored for different industries?
A7 - Follow up meetings depend on how the potential client wishes to progress. It could be in regards to any of the following:
  1. Follow up questions in regards to why Nexus over other providers (more in general questions or in regards to their specific solution)
  2. Further use case development discussion - best way to develop the use case to maximise associated benefits
  3. Disclosure of their internal systems and what they wish their use case to achieve for this business. An NDA is typically signed prior to the second/third meeting, as sensitive information such as this is disclosed, and needs to be protected.
A key point with Nexus that separates us from the larger players is that with us, we have the capability to tailor everything (right down to the Network Layer). Our meetings reflect this flexibility, so we never try and sell a set product. We will discuss with the business, see what they would like, and see how we can help.
alexelmo [4:01 PM]
Q8 - Are use cases going to be publicly announced and if so when?
A8 - If and when perspective use cases / partnerships have been finalised, and the deal allows public announcement, then we will 100% be releasing this as public information. This is our goal for all use cases, but it is down to the business if, when and how they release this information. We must respect that different businesses have different strategies and timelines. (edited)
Q9 - Do you do demo's of the Nexus blockchain in action? If so, who from the organisation does these?
A9 - Yes we do sometimes show demos of our Blockchain in action.
As Dino has built the Demos he is typically the team member who demonstrates a use case in action (how a supply chain would work on Nexus).
Colin has done some speed based demos (showing the speed of the Nexus Blockchain in terms of reads and writes per second).
ej [4:05 PM]
I am assuming you're not at liberty to disclose if any new usecases/partnerships were indeed finalized due to the reasons previously mentioned.
alexelmo [1 hour ago]
Unfortunately we cant currently.
ej [4:06 PM]
Understood
And thank you
Dawca_Mocy [4:08 PM]
@alexelmo
How will all this affect the price of nxs? Are we going down all the time? When will nxs be noticed? Can you tell something about investors whose portfolios are smaller by 95% today?
alexelmo [1 hour ago]
Please see question 9
David Walliams [4:10 PM]
I don't think he have crystal ball dawca
alexelmo [4:11 PM]
Unfortunately not @David Walliams......that would be helpful though! :joy:
Dawca_Mocy [4:16 PM]
@alexelmo Crystal ball. Hehe. Ok. Therefore, what price do you expect for nxs at the end of the year? I mean your opinion.
alexelmo [4:16 PM]
Q10 - Please discuss where we are in the process of letting NXS be purchased with fiat (if that is even being worked on) and the hopes of finally decoupling from BTC?
A10 - This is certainly a goal, although the main focus for us has been primarily on blockchain use cases recently. The reason for this focus on use cases is that as our adoption improves, we expect that our dependence on Bitcoin will reduce.
Generally it is the top ranked coins which are listed with liquid fiat pairs. As the adoption of the Nexus blockchain improves, we hope to increase up the ranks, and look to list with these fiat based exchanges. Currently, BC Bitcoin in the UK has the ability to exchange NXS with a number of fiat currencies and other cryptocurrencies.
David Walliams [4:19 PM]
anymore news on binance US? (edited)
alexelmo [4:22 PM]
Q11 - Are we going to be listed on BinanceUS?
A11 - I have been in conversations with Binance for a while regarding the developments at BinanceUS. We have worked hard to ensure we meet the requirements for a BinanceUS listing
Unfortunately a key requirement that we may fall short on is our trading volume. We expect that only the very highest volume coins will be initially listed as part of the BinanceUS launch.
We will keep you informed as this develops.
Q12 - How many companies are currently waiting for something specific before getting their feet wet?
A12 - The main thing we have been asked for by businesses over the past few months has been in regards to the Tritium main net release. Some of our businesses are waiting for the network to be live before progressing any further, so we are very excited for our potential use cases to see the release and have a deep dive into the live running code soon.
We would like to thank @dino for making blockchain demos in the private testnet environment which have really helped given the main net deployment release date has been delayed over the past few months.
B l a c k J a c k [4:33 PM]
What are some of the other industries we have looked to disrupt, but for which NDAs have not been signed or been followed up on?
alexelmo [4:38 PM]
Q13 - Have there been cases where Nexus has been preferred to other enterprise-focused blockchains such as Hyperledger, Corda, Ethereum?
A13 - In many cases, companies we have talked to have been greatly impressed with Nexus’ technology. Yes, in almost all cases the prospective client has said our technology is superior to that of the major providers, a feat which we are extremely proud of.
alexelmo [4:46 PM]
Q14 - Can we do anything to help with enterprise efforts?
A14 - We always welcome support and input from the community in regards to our business development efforts. I have had messages from a number of community members who have told us about companies looking into blockchain and have also had calls with individuals to discuss how it would be best to approach your personal contacts.
Feel free to reach out to me if you think you have a potential business in mind that would be a good fit, I’d be more than happy to jump on a call to discuss. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you know we are here to help if needed.
I think I've covered all the messages that have been sent to me privately and on here so Im going to call it a night. Thanks for your time guys.

Honestnode Founder Discusses the First Stablecoin Built on Bitcoin Cash

https://news.bitcoin.com/honestnode-founder-discusses-the-first-stablecoin-built-on-bitcoin-cash/
BC: What made you decide to use the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) network to create a stablecoin?
Jian Shi: As the first regulated stablecoin on the BCH chain, USDH can fill a gap in the BCH ecosystem that lacks a regulated stablecoin. At the same time, Bitcoin Cash supports large blocks, with low transfer fees (about 1 satoshi) and 0 confirmation (instant arrival of small amounts). From the perspective of both transfer fees and speeds, it is superior to the BTC Omni Layer protocol and the ERC20 protocol built on Ethereum.
BC: Can you tell our readers how the USDH stablecoin is backed by your U.S. partner?
Jian Shi: Honestnode works with Koi Compliance, a San Francisco-based provider backed by Binance Labs, to ensure that USDH complies with all applicable legal requirements, including U.S. federal and state money transmission laws and AML/CFT rules. Among other things, USDH follows all requirements of a FinCEN-registered MSB by performing thorough identification verification, due diligence, beneficiary ownership checks, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting. Additionally, Honestnode works with Cohen LLP to issue audited assertions from time to time to ensure that USDH is backed by USD 1:1.

Slack log for Ark token's value proposition discussion 16-07-18

Please find below a log of the discussion we had in slack regarding the ark token's value proposition. Some of the community members who happen to be long term holders of ark feel that the ark token's value proposition isn't clearly communicated by the team so they asked about it. I'm posting the entire discussion it here to make a permanent record since slack wipes messages after a while.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
arigard [7:21 PM]
Hey team, so I'm curious. Is there any update on a new white paper at all that was being mentioned? I've been holding Ark since it hit Bittrex and I personally don't really have a clear idea about how the token is going to work in the overall picture, or what really the direction is for the project once v2 is out. It feels like things have gone a bit flat recently, are there any updates on direction and what the plan is once V2 is live? Is there any idea about when it might go live? Or how the Ark token will fit into the economy (will it be a gas?). I see a lot of other projects i'm invested in coming up with very clear roadmaps/dates and direction about what they want to be and I still personally feel Ark's message is a little confused and hard to read especially for people who are not coders/developers.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:22 PM]
the roadmap is on the site, arkdirectory.com/kits has nice presentations and other goodies
roks0n (deadlock) [7:23 PM]
@Matthew_DC mentioned a couple of days ago that he’s preparing several blog posts which should explain most of these @arigard
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:23 PM]
the Blog also goes into lots of v2 details
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:24 PM]
Hi everyone.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:24 PM]
Ark is Ark, not like Eth with gas, hence no gas.
Hey @Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) welcome back
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:24 PM]
Hey rob, hi Rok :slightly_smiling_face:
roks0n (deadlock) [7:25 PM]
Rob, I think he means how everything will be connected with ArkVM etc.
similar conversation as the one few days ago (edited)
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:25 PM]
It's been a while, but I was head on in the project, sorry for not showing more often.
arigard [7:25 PM]
Yeah my main question is really I still don't know what will give the actual Ark token value .
goldenpepe [7:25 PM]
we dont know how the arkvm will work
All we can do is wait
Doubled1c3 (ArkStickers.com) [7:26 PM]

We can make assumptions but that's all they'll be
roks0n (deadlock) [7:26 PM]
@arigard this was the discussion: https://arkecosystem.slack.com/archives/C2ABRLZB8/p1531422791000216
roks0n (deadlock)
definitely, I’m not blaming anyone :slightly_smiling_face: Was just curious if there were any developments in terms of the updated whitepaper because I was reading one of the threads on reddit from 6 months ago where it was mentioned you’re looking to hire someone write it up.
Posted in #generalJul 12th
arigard [7:26 PM]
And I kind of feel this is such a big elephant in the room for people in the long run.
roks0n (deadlock) [7:26 PM]
click on the link and read from that post on (edited)
arigard [7:26 PM]
ok
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:27 PM]
I saw that there has been some drawbacks with the V2 ?
(Not sure if it's exact, I only came a few times and seemed to understand it was so)
goldenpepe [7:28 PM]
There are just some incompatibilities between v1 and v2 in devnet
which is why devnet is currently down
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:28 PM]
ArkVM may be unnecessary as more modern approaches to handling contracts are available, one of the main issue is having them be distributed just like the tokens.
goldenpepe [7:28 PM]
There's a community run v2-only devnet though #devnet_unofficial
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:28 PM]
it's more like drawback with v1
arigard [7:30 PM]
I mean I've seen a lot of stuff in that discussion discussed over the past year and there still seems to be no concrete answers coming out and that is a bit of worry to me personally. It makes it look like the team doesn't even know. I think most that know of Ark understand it wants to create an easy way to deploy blockchains and work as a platform and have some inoperability options. But the fundamentals of how that work right now seems to be up in the air. In other projects I know what gives those tokens value, but in Ark I don't, so it's hard for me as an investor to really sell to someone else the benefits of the token when there is a big question mark still on it.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:33 PM]
do you know that Ark Deployer has been available for quite some time?
arigard [7:34 PM]
Yes, that doesn't really answer any questions though.
mak [7:34 PM]
Ark deployer helps the main chain's business case somehow?
arigard [7:35 PM]
What gives Ark token actual value? Like what is the reason people need to buy and hold the Ark token? That is my question.
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:36 PM]
@mak what you're saying is kinda like answering you can use a hammer when asked what a nail do.
arigard [7:36 PM]
You don't need to buy the Ark token to deploy a chain. You can just do it.
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:36 PM]
I mean, the Ark Deployer doesn't answer what's the Ark.
mak [7:36 PM]
@Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) my point was directed towards rob's comment. I think you misunderstood it.
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:37 PM]
@mak My bad then. I apologize.
Blockhunter [7:38 PM]
:boogieark9:
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:38 PM]
" I think most that know of Ark understand it wants to create an easy way to deploy blockchains and work as a platform and have some inoperability options. But the fundamentals of how that work right now seems to be up in the air."
This is why I wrote that.. there is no mystery of how that works. You are mistaken or uninformed.
arkenstone [7:38 PM]
That's the problem here because team is programming orientated but there hasn't been alot done on business aspect of the token and marketing investor point big view
mak [7:38 PM]
That only explains the value of the ark codebase not the blockchain though
arigard [7:38 PM]
I think you seem to be trying to turn the argument in a seperate direction.
It's a simple question.
What gives the Ark token value.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:39 PM]
The market does. It's on 19 different exchanges.
arigard [7:39 PM]
Seems like you are being unhelpfully obtuse. I'll rephrase.
roks0n (deadlock) [7:39 PM]
so one thing that is clear to me is interoperability using ACES, where ARK is used as a “middleman” between two different chains, so if there’s high volume between those chains, it means the volume of ark increases as well .. what I’d like to know is how things will work with arkvm and how it will all work with sidechains (on eth, all the side chains will basically link back to the main chain which will be the one responsible for security afaik?)
arigard [7:39 PM]
What gives the Ark token value in the Ark ecosystem.
Blockhunter [7:40 PM]
Vote for Pedro he will make all your dreams come true
arigard [7:40 PM]
Eth is a gas, Waves is a gas. Ark is... what?
mak [7:40 PM]
ACES can work with any chains though. Doesn't have to be ark main chain. So I guess tomorrow persona can become the settlement layer for the Ark ecosystem and there's no incentive to stop it from happening.
arigard [7:40 PM]
^
roks0n (deadlock) [7:41 PM]
Mak, correct but if there are already lots of chains connected between ARK, it will be more appealing to link it through ARK directly
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:41 PM]
As I understand it, ACES could be using any given blockchain as the middle man...
roks0n (deadlock) [7:41 PM]
it doesn’t mean that it can’t be copied tho
arigard [7:41 PM]
But there are no chains connected through Ark atm
That have any real value anyway
roks0n (deadlock) [7:41 PM]
eth and btc are
arigard [7:41 PM]
And they can be connected through any Ark clone.
bangomatic [7:41 PM]
I'd love to hear the Ark team chime in on this discussion
arigard [7:42 PM]
So anyone can come along and make another chain that can instantly overtake Ark at this present time if there isn't a failsafe reason for Ark to be the defacto currency.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:42 PM]
https://arkecosystem.slack.com/archives/C2ABRLZB8/p1531762883000422 you can't keep saying things like this as if they are true.
arigard
That have any real value anyway

Blockhunter [7:42 PM]
Interoperability to the moon
mak [7:42 PM]
"it will be more appealing to link it through ARK directly"
Currently Ark is the only mature chain because it's been around longer but the moment persona or some other bridge chain gets listed on an exchange that dynamic is no longer there. So why would you prefer Ark over persona when that happens. That's the question as far as I understand it. (edited)
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:43 PM]
Persona has other goals, not duplicating Ark goals
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:43 PM]
@bangomatic Hi!
arigard [7:43 PM]
What current sidechain of Ark has real value/position in the crypto market? Persona?
bangomatic [7:43 PM]
hey @Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe)!
mak [7:43 PM]
The blockchain as a transaction medium doesn't care about secondary goals.
It still has all the capabilities that Ark has.
Colby [7:43 PM]
What has value right now?

Ark's ecosystem at present is not big enough to be a reason not to just take the tech and start your own.
To think otherwise is ludicrous.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:44 PM]
that's a fine opinion
Jarunik [7:44 PM]
it is harder than you think :slightly_smiling_face:
arigard [7:44 PM]
We aren't Eth with multi $100mn + start ups and even if we were, what's currently to stop one of those just overtaking Ark and leaving it behind?
Jarunik [7:45 PM]
i hope some ark clones get really sucessful to be honest :slightly_smiling_face:

HODL ROCKET TECHNOLOGY
mak [7:45 PM]
Same here but then there's no reason to hold Ark over something else
arigard [7:45 PM]
i hope so too if there is some reason for Ark to always be there at the top considering it's the Ark platform.
Colby [7:45 PM]
But the thing is that I am wondering, if ark clones get successful, what benefits does it give back to ark
Djenny Floro (Ark Tribe) [7:45 PM]
@Jarunik to create an ecosystem?
mak [7:45 PM]
Right now we have to consider Ark's value not the other bridge chains
arigard [7:45 PM]
But if there isn't a reason for Ark to exist at the top, why are we all holding it?
Colby [7:45 PM]
Haha I think we are all thinking the same :slightly_smiling_face:
arigard [7:45 PM]
It's a terrible business plan
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:46 PM]
the point of BridgeChains is to allow new projects with no access the market a path to them through Ark, and hence gain value.
Other blockchains connections are through ACES, such as BTC, LTC, ETH, and more coming..
Persona has a way to trade Ark <> Prs
arigard [7:47 PM]
What is to stop them from getting their own exchanges in the future and just using Ark as a stepping stone to becoming their own platform operator?
mak [7:47 PM]
Sure rob, but there's now 10 different projects doing the same and they are faster in development than the ark team is
arigard [7:47 PM]
^
Blockhunter [7:47 PM]
Ark is the Yoda of blockchain and they need a better catchphrase. Better than ark gives no dates or point click blockchain
arigard [7:48 PM]
This attitude seems horribly naive if this is the value proposition.
mak [7:48 PM]
All of us believe in the vision that Ark brought us but I personally am not sure if Ark is the best option to execute that vision in time
arigard [7:48 PM]
The issue is, we don't know what the value proposition is.
mak [7:48 PM]
Other projects seem much faster
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:48 PM]
if you are into speculation, which it seems you are, then on paper all of your projects with no code are better and have more value than Ark
arigard [7:48 PM]
That's not true at all. lol.
Matthew_DC [7:49 PM]
At the most base level, ARK is a common currency token that is essentially automatically compatible with every bridge chain that is built based on ARK and is optimized for transaction volume and throughput to avoid bloat of other mechanisms introduced by the other chains. That is at the most basic level. By holding the ARK token itself, you will be able to enact the functions of multiple bridged chains both issued by our team and others. You will also be able to utilize the ARK chain as a pegged token to many bridged chains but that process will be transparent to users as it will be done behind the scenes without the user needing to do any functions. To think that someone will fork the code and generate a more effective ARK main chain means you have no confidence in the ARK team as the primary developer of the technology itself. In this case, if we are not and someone pushes a better version of the network, then I would argue maybe they SHOULD be chosen. That is the point of a free and open market. Not to mention the potential for registering and providing snapshot hashes to the main ARK blockchain to provide added security measures to a bridge chain with lower security due to lower market share etc, those are just baseline reasons.
As I mentioned the other day, at face value, consider this. What brings value to Litecoin or Bitcoin or Doge? In essence, ARK is a more effective currency and base network than all of these aforementioned networks with all of the added benefits being added for additional use cases.
roks0n (deadlock) [7:50 PM]
will ark based chains be bridged via arkvm?
goldenpepe [7:50 PM]
They cant be
You'd need the VM on both sides
Matthew_DC [7:50 PM]
I am currently on a conference call and have a lot going on so I can't respond too much.
goldenpepe [7:50 PM]
You can use AIP11's new tx types to do a sort of escrow between chains though i think
mak [7:50 PM]
@Matthew_DC Are you saying that the bridgechains deployed by ark-deployer don't have the same features?
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:50 PM]
ArkVM is not for bridging chains
goldenpepe [7:51 PM]
It can be
Coinme [7:51 PM]
And ICO's that will join Ark in the future will use it for buying their token.
goldenpepe [7:51 PM]
But both chains will need to be running the VM
Matthew_DC [7:51 PM]
The ARK main chain will have specific methods of allowing token transfer and utilization between chains to include quasi-centralized methods through aces, decentralized aces based intermediary networks, Time locked transfers, among custom built smart contract like logic built into the core technology itself that doesn't make the network susceptible to the bloat and mis-utilization an vulnerabilities of full VM use.
goldenpepe [7:51 PM]
(which the main ark chain wont be)
mak [7:51 PM]
"ICO's that will join Ark in the future will use it for buying their token"
Or any other bridgechain that's listed on exchanges
@Matthew_DC So will all of the bridgechains, no? I could start an ACES node today for persona and it will have no difference from what you describe.
Matthew_DC [7:52 PM]
@mak no, we promised ARK would be open source and everything we build for the core ARK blockchain will be open source.
arigard [7:53 PM]
You can be open source and still protect your value..
Matthew_DC [7:54 PM]
The point of ARK from day 1 has been to create a better base layer blockchain technology and protocol for everyone everywhere to be able to use to create anything they can dream up.
The ARK token is a core payment layer for the ecosystem including any applications we build ourselves, sponsor, partner with, or support.
mak [7:54 PM]
It seems like the team's vision for Ark is as a software product only and there's no business plan for the main chain. Which is fine but it's not explained as such. (edited)
Blockhunter [7:55 PM]
Great to see such active discussions
goldenpepe [7:55 PM]
I think what Matt is trying to portray is this:
A single universal Ark Ecosystem wallet holding ARK that has a nice UI with a list of dapps in the ecosystem
You select a dapp
You send a tx from the wallet using Ark
----------------Everything below this line is transparent to the user-----------------
The Ark transaction has instructions in the smartbridge field
The Ark gets converted to dappCoin via an intermediary like ACES (trustful) or a trustless escrow smart contract
The intermediary received Ark and uses the dappCoin on the dapp chain to do whatever it is the user wanted to do using the instructions in the smartbridge field
The dappchain responds to the request to the intermediary
Intermediary sends an Ark tx with the results of the dapp computation/action in the smartbridge field
---------------Everything above this line is transparent to the user-------------------
After 8+ seconds, user's wallet shows them the result of their interaction with the dapp bridgechain
That's where the value of Ark will come from
The Ark coin will be a universal "omni-coin"
Matthew_DC [7:56 PM]
:this: This
goldenpepe [7:56 PM]
That will instantly shapeshift into bridgechain coins to interact with the bridgechain dapp
mak [7:58 PM]
I understand what your point is and I agree it will work but only as long as none of the bridge chains are on an exchange
when for example persona gets listed on binance the scenario changes
and now either chain can become the backbone of the ark ecosystem
arigard [7:58 PM]
Yes. We see that. But hypothetically what is to stop a bridged Ark chain from becoming bigger than Ark and then going on to become that gateway? At this point it just seems to be hopium that the Ark network will always be the one people look to. But in one year, or two, or five, it might not be the case. What is to stop Ark being just sidelined if another team come along with develop on what Ark has built and propel it forward and take the mantle?
goldenpepe [7:58 PM]
What you say will be a problem only if the utility of the dapp coin is greater than the utility of the ark omnicoin
Would you rather hold a coin that can do one thing and is forever tied to a single chain
arigard [7:59 PM]
But in other crypto's an app becoming sucessfull is a benefit. In Ark's network it could be a negative.
goldenpepe [7:59 PM]
Or would you rather hold a coin that can interact with that single chain and 3232523432 others
arigard [7:59 PM]
But why can't another coin become an omnicoin?
If there are no limitations against it
goldenpepe [7:59 PM]
Why can't another coin become ethereum?
mak [7:59 PM]
"What you say will be a problem only if the utility of the dapp coin is greater than the utility of the ark omnicoin"
Or if it gives out better staking returns etc like persona because of higher inflation rate
goldenpepe [7:59 PM]
if there are no limitations against it
You can literally go on AWS right now and deploy an ethereum clone chain
arigard [7:59 PM]
It can, but an ETH token can't oust ETH
That's the difference. We are giving people an easy route here.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [7:59 PM]
do you often think your children should not surpass you? Or is that the hope?
Matthew_DC [8:00 PM]
Well it's about security, trust, potential vulnerabilities due to added functionality, the ability of the bridgechain team to create interactions and focus on use cases for their token outside of their core use, etc.
But that's the point of open and free markets
goldenpepe [8:00 PM]
There is a solution to your concern @arigard
Matthew_DC [8:00 PM]
What is to stop someone from being better than Bitcoin?
arigard [8:01 PM]
I think all these strawman arguments are fun, but they still aren't adressing the issuel
goldenpepe [8:01 PM]
Instead of having Ark Deployer literally cloning the ark codebase, have it be a turnkey solution to run a layer 2 chain
Matthew_DC [8:01 PM]
You could go fork Ethereum right now and have an exact copy of the capability of the main Eth chain.
goldenpepe [8:01 PM]
bridgechain dapps can be "colored coins"
that are forever tied to the main chain
arigard [8:01 PM]
Yeah but you wouldn't have those businesses on the chain.
goldenpepe [8:01 PM]
but that would introduce bloat
Matthew_DC [8:01 PM]
So you are saying the utility of Ethereum is adoption.
arigard [8:01 PM]
And those businesses won't have the potential to become the main ETH.
Matthew_DC [8:01 PM]
Which is the case for the value of any token.
goldenpepe [8:01 PM]
@arigard It sounds like you want ark to become Ethereum Plasma
arigard [8:02 PM]
I just want an answer.
Matthew_DC [8:02 PM]
How many companies are pulling their ERC20 tokens off of Ethereum because of the issues?
Colby [8:02 PM]
Yeah but correct me if im wrong
goldenpepe [8:02 PM]
There is no answer that will satisfy what you are asking
arigard [8:02 PM]
And i keep getting strawmanned.
Colby [8:02 PM]
Ethereum projects NEED eth for gas
Matthew_DC [8:02 PM]
We talk to people almost every day that are looking to leave Ethereum.
Colby [8:02 PM]
Ark is needed for?
arigard [8:02 PM]
^
Colby [8:02 PM]
This is all I am wondering, where does the ark coin fit into it
I love the idea
goldenpepe [8:02 PM]
@arigard You want ark-based coins to rely on Ark
The team wants the Ark chain to not be bloated
The solution to this is unironically ethereum plasma and sharding
Colby [8:02 PM]
but have been waiting for a while to know how the Ark coin will actually be used
goldenpepe [8:03 PM]
Shards in ethereum are basically "bridgechains"
arigard [8:03 PM]
Ok, and those teams might be big enough and clued up enough to eventually knock Ark from being the de facto omni coin. That's the worry.
If this is in fact the possibility.
Then it should be clear.
mak [8:03 PM]
"You could go fork Ethereum right now and have an exact copy of the capability of the main Eth chain."
@Matthew_DC Ethereum has value because all the dapps live on it which is not true for ark
arigard [8:03 PM]
Because as an investor it worries me, a lot.
I don't know where the value of Ark as an investment is 100% right now.
Jarunik [8:03 PM]
Ark is basically the inverse approach to Ethereum. Eth goes for big one-fits all first and tries to shard ... Ark is creating shards and then combines them
goldenpepe [8:03 PM]
There is no solution to what @arigard and @mak are saying right now
Literally no existing solution
Only proposals like sharding
arigard [8:04 PM]
And all this noise about defensiveness doesn't help. These are legit concerns.
Matthew_DC [8:04 PM]
When was it not clear that if a company comes along and builds a better more used product it could potentially take over market share?
That's how all free markets work.
You can't believe in open source and build and open source product without that risk.
arigard [8:04 PM]
But that isn't the same thing. Ark is literally building THE tools for people to then do that.
mak [8:04 PM]
@Matthew_DC Just to clarify I appreciate the work you guys are doing but I want to make an informed investment decision about holding the ark token
arigard [8:04 PM]
As a platform.
Jarunik [8:04 PM]
yes ... that is the idea how to grow
arigard [8:04 PM]
if you cloned Bitcoin back in the day you were a seperate currency.
Jarunik [8:04 PM]
provide good tools for others to create chains
arigard [8:04 PM]
This is a platform, its totally different.
And what we are discuswsing here is who runs that platform.
Matthew_DC [8:05 PM]
If someone launched an Ethereum chain right now and gained adoption there is a huge potential that all tokens decide to move their ERC20 tokens to the new chain and it becomes the new Ethereum and you have in essence lost all value because Ethereum is not capable of being used on the bridge chain as a currency.
ARK maintains it's value if for no other reason than the pegged value to any chain we personally create to include VM chain, token issuance chain, etc.
arigard [8:05 PM]
If it's built by Ark, does Ark always retain control? if not, why? What happens if Ark ends up building tools for a subsidary project that propels itself above them. Investors will just move to that coin.
Matthew_DC [8:05 PM]
Because it's an open decentralized system.
The problem is people don't actually believe in decentralization if it possibly harms their potential for monetary gain.
rob [ Ark Labs ] [8:06 PM]
we hope bridgechains get popular because that also means more for Ark in many ways.
arigard [8:06 PM]
You can be decentralized without being 100% altruistic. It's not mutually exclusive.
mak [8:06 PM]
@goldenpepe Since you guys claim that there's no solution for this how about I present one which @Matthew_DC can decide if it's useful or not. Make delegate voting for the ArkVM happen on the main chain. So anyone who wants to become a delegate for the VM needs to hold money on the main chain.
arigard [8:07 PM]
It just seems people are being dogmatic about this.
And if this isn't about investment. Why have an ICO?
Matthew_DC [8:07 PM]
Ethereum being the core chain for all ERC20 token based businesses centralizes the industry in a massive way. Not only is Ethereum itself centralized in the way it's mining structure was developed, but it also is centralized in that if the Ethereum network is compromised, thousands of companies assets and business are now compromised.
We don't believe that is the future.
mak [8:07 PM]
I'm not saying that this should be done for all sidechains. Just for the VM and it will be a special case.
Matthew_DC [8:07 PM]
We believe in a different business model.
That has been at the core of every description and explanation I have given from day 1.
arigard [8:07 PM]
Ok and that's fine, but my point is this should be made very clear if it's the case.
From the team officially.
goldenpepe [8:07 PM]
@mak now you're strawmanning me
Matthew_DC [8:07 PM]
Where is it not clear?
goldenpepe [8:08 PM]
I was addressing the fact that the idea that bridgechains shouldnt be independent and should be tied to Ark being in conflict with the Ark team's idea that the main chain should not be bloated with dapps
The only plausible solution to that right now
is Ethereum Plasma
Sharding
yokoama (thefoundry Delegate) [8:09 PM]
Sharting
mak [8:09 PM]
"We believe in a different business model."
I respect that. But it changes the ark's value proposition to just being a source of funding to the ark team and a means of speculation.
goldenpepe [8:09 PM]
Shards in ethereum are like bridgechains but the coins are all erc20s that rely on ethereum
Matthew_DC [8:09 PM]
People said ARK's DPoS mechanism would be a failure when we changed the voting structure because they said it wouldn't be secure enough. It has turned out to be massively secure compared to the centralized cartel run solutions of other DPoS chains. This is another fundamental issue where we believe we have a model that will work and will create value and thousands of use cases for the ARK token in a seamless way for the average user.
goldenpepe [8:09 PM]
and the shard blocks dont interfere or bloat up the "main" eth chain
mak [8:09 PM]
@goldenpepe I'm not suggesting deploying dapps on main chain. Just that the voting should take place there so there is always incentive to keep money on the main chain.
Matthew_DC [8:10 PM]
At no point did we say ARK was gas and have constantly made sure to outline the differences between ARK and Ethereum.
I believe the Eth model is flawed.
goldenpepe [8:11 PM]
The current ethereum model is flawed
If sharding works then it's going to solve a lot of its issues
(i dont hold any ethereum btw)
arigard [8:12 PM]
At no point have we actually had an updated white paper discussing this question in detail, clearly. It's not on the website and if it is it's buried somewhere in a blog post. The fact these discussions keep cropping up is proof of this.
nukacolaplease [8:12 PM]
I think we don't understand clearly what makes Ark important after the launch of the sidechains, Ark will be only an "exchange token"? The sidechain doesn't need Ark for operating
goldenpepe [8:12 PM]
+1 on needing a new whitepaper
Matthew_DC [8:12 PM]
replied to a thread:
This is a means of centralization of the network. Instead, by utilizing a form of pegged bridge chains, we can maintain a similar effect without creating centralization and reliance on 1 chain for others to properly function.
arkenstone [8:12 PM]
I think these things should be clearly written in a new WB and officially made public and promoted
goldenpepe [8:12 PM]
A new whitepaper would clear up so much FUD
pieface [8:13 PM]
Yeah I think a new WP is needed for sure
arigard [8:13 PM]
So don't start going "Oh everybody knows this, it's clear" Show me where on the front page of the website it tells you how the token mechanics will work in the ecosystem? It's not good it being on some powerpoint on a google drive, or hidden in comments in the slack.
mak [8:13 PM]
I though there wasn't going to be a new whitepaper.
arigard [8:13 PM]
It needs to be clear to investors how it works, exactly.
goldenpepe [8:13 PM]
I agree with arigard here
I only know what I know because I live on slack
Matthew_DC [8:13 PM]
The solutions are still in development and there are always opportunities to continue to adapt the model, that's why I have these conversations and ask for feedback regularly, but the core fundamental belief of how open and free decentralized markets should work most likely won't change.
arkenstone [8:13 PM]
Same here
goldenpepe [8:14 PM]
The vast majority of ark holders have no idea
they just bought bc of the cool red triangle
arigard [8:14 PM]
Stop playing cute, this is people's money you are asking for. So at least give them the benefit of being honest that there is no inherent business model reason why Ark will be necessary in the future.
And let them make their decisions.
roks0n (deadlock) [8:14 PM]
I agree, it took me months of following discussion on slack and digging around reddit to get information
arigard [8:14 PM]
With proper information.
mak [8:14 PM]
replied to a thread:
It's centralizing value onto one chain but doesn't bottleneck the ecosystem so I don't see anything being wrong with that.
Matthew_DC [8:15 PM]
replied to a thread:
I'm not arguing with you and I made a clear post here within the last 2 days that our website messaging is shit and needs completely redone.
If the ARK network is compromised or the consensus mechanism of the ARK main net is compromised then all subsequent networks reliant on that consensus would be compromised as well.
mad4thrash [8:15 PM]
In my opinion Ark's value come from (in the future) the fact that by holding one coin I can interact with every bridgechain plus any ACES services
Matthew_DC [8:16 PM]
So what I am saying is that we have to be cautious of these kinds of decisions and ensure that we aren't inadvertently creating attack vectors to take down partners, businesses, and other industries using the technology.
I'm sorry guys, I have to go, but I would love to continue this conversation on Reddit or here at a later time.
mak [8:16 PM]
"all subsequent networks reliant on that consensus would be compromised as well"
^ Correction: only the VM chain will be compromised since I'm not advocating that all bridgechains should vote on the main chain.
Matthew_DC [8:19 PM]
In an isolated case, if we can map it out and vet the concept, I'm more than happy to hear it out and have the conversation.
Solowatch [8:19 PM]
So I think we can all agree an updated Whitepaper is due
Matthew_DC [8:20 PM]
This is a community project and we are shaping pieces of it together as we continue to build. We have already made changes based on community feedback on many occasions.
So I would love to see someone post a proposal to reddit or even as an AIP at some point that we could discuss.
Jarunik [8:20 PM]
If you write a white paper it will be outdated soon
Solowatch [8:21 PM]
Well a V2 whitepaper shouldn’t be outdated soon
I don’t care about a V1 or V1.5 whitepaper lol
I want a whitepaper for V2 that’s clearly explaining all these concerns that the community has
arkenstone [8:22 PM]
:this:
Solowatch [8:23 PM]
I wrote a few questions down that I’ll post in here later today that @rob [ Ark Labs ] asked for. Please add to it if I missed anything once I do.
arkenstone [8:23 PM]
And I think now it's the time do it. Present it with full package on mainet launch.. (edited)
Solowatch [8:23 PM]
Or PM and I’ll add them before posting
mak [8:25 PM]
Anyways thanks for listening and responding @Matthew_DC. Some of us have been trying to discuss this with the ark team but didn't get much feedback until today.
arigard [8:25 PM]
Yeah +1
arkenstone [8:28 PM]
Alot of early investors are getting worried

BTC is currently reporting $9461.53, down 7.56% in the day. In response to the current trend, BTC has fluctuated within a narrow range during this period. Today’s market broke the previous adjustment stage. The price quickly fell from above $10,200 to a minimum of $9311 and then rose to the current $1,471, and the current price fell below the key support. MA120 moving average (near $9,500), if the daily line closes, it will be possible to continue to test to the previous long-term low support of $9000. We can see the weekly trend of the whole bull market from BTC 2016 to 2018. It can be seen that the Bollinger Middle Track plays a key supporting role in the slow cattle to mad cow market. The BTC can quickly recover from each time it reaches the vicinity of the moving average, and the lowest point of the five weekly rounds is not touched. The track was quickly pulled back, and the remaining two minimum pins were pulled back below the middle rail. The overall low point of the trend gradually rose to the highest level of 20,000 US dollars. At present, BTC pulled out from the strong price of 4,000 US dollars in early April. In the middle of the forest, the price has been running above the middle rail. After hitting a 19-year high of 14,000 US dollars, it is in a continuous pullback trend. Below the key bull market trend, the Bollinger Middle Track Supported at around $9080, there is a short-term opportunity to test the mid-rail support of the weekly Bollinger. At the same time, the area is also the support of the weekly EMA21 moving average. The lower limit can be added to the vicinity of $8,800 to $9,000, and the weekly MACD on the water is still in the overall position. From the end of the large decline triangle of 14,000 US dollars to 9,000 US dollars, it is technically impossible to judge the end of the 19-year Mavericks market before the support of the mid-rail trend of the unbroken weekly level.

BTC briefly fell below the $10,000 mark yesterday to date, then rebounded quickly and is now back near $10,200. In the past 24 hours, the net outflow of BTC funds is close to $450 million, and the outflow of funds has decreased compared with the previous cycle. The BTC continued to withdraw at night yesterday and was quickly pulled up after breaking the $10,000 barrier. The air force remained weak, with strong overall support underneath. Yesterday, the day line closed a long shadow line, the day is expected to oscillate upward, the medium-term trend continues to lean towards bulls, but BC has not given a clear direction, the trading needs to pay attention to risk. In terms of operation, the spot can be held continuously, the strategy of replenishing warehouse at a low level should be maintained, and the risk should be avoided.

Decred Journal — June 2018

Note: You can read this on GitHub, Medium or old Reddit to see the 207 links.

Development

The biggest announcement of the month was the new kind of decentralized exchange proposed by @jy-p of Company 0. The Community Discussions section considers the stakeholders' response.
dcrd: Peer management and connectivity improvements. Some work for improved sighash algo. A new optimization that gives 3-4x faster serving of headers, which is great for SPV. This was another step towards multipeer parallel downloads – check this issue for a clear overview of progress and planned work for next months (and some engineering delight). As usual, codebase cleanup, improvements to error handling, test infrastructure and test coverage.
Decrediton: work towards watching only wallets, lots of bugfixes and visual design improvements. Preliminary work to integrate SPV has begun.
Politeia is live on testnet! Useful links: announcement, introduction, command line voting example, example proposal with some votes, mini-guide how to compose a proposal.
Trezor: Decred appeared in the firmware update and on Trezor website, currently for testnet only. Next steps are mainnet support and integration in wallets. For the progress of Decrediton support you can track this meta issue.
dcrdata: Continued work on Insight API support, see this meta issue for progress overview. It is important for integrations due to its popularity. Ongoing work to add charts. A big database change to improve sorting on the Address page was merged and bumped version to 3.0. Work to visualize agenda voting continues.
Ticket splitting: 11-way ticket split from last month has voted (transaction).
Ethereum support in atomicswap is progressing and welcomes more eyeballs.
decred.org: revamped Press page with dozens of added articles, and a shiny new Roadmap page.
decredinfo.com: a new Decred dashboard by lte13. Reddit announcement here.
Dev activity stats for June: 245 active PRs, 184 master commits, 25,973 added and 13,575 deleted lines spread across 8 repositories. Contributions came from 2 to 10 developers per repository. (chart)

Network

Hashrate: growth continues, the month started at 15 and ended at 44 PH/s with some wild 30% swings on the way. The peak was 53.9 PH/s.
F2Pool was the leader varying between 36% and 59% hashrate, followed by coinmine.pl holding between 18% and 29%. In response to concerns about its hashrate share, F2Pool made a statement that they will consider measures like rising the fees to prevent growing to 51%.
Staking: 30-day average ticket price is 94.7 DCR (+3.4). The price was steadily rising from 90.7 to 95.8 peaking at 98.1. Locked DCR grew from 3.68 to 3.81 million DCR, the highest value was 3.83 million corresponding to 47.87% of supply (+0.7% from previous peak).
Nodes: there are 240 public listening and 115 normal nodes per dcred.eu. Version distribution: 57% on v1.2.0 (+12%), 25% on v1.1.2 (-13%), 14% on v1.1.0 (-1%). Note: the reported count of non-listening nodes has dropped significantly due to data reset at decred.eu. It will take some time before the crawler collects more data. On top of that, there is no way to exactly count non-listening nodes. To illustrate, an alternative data source, charts.dcr.farm showed 690 reachable nodes on Jul 1.
Extraordinary event: 247361 and 247362 were two nearly full blocks. Normally blocks are 10-20 KiB, but these blocks were 374 KiB (max is 384 KiB).

ASICs

Update from Obelisk: shipping is expected in first half of July and there is non-zero chance to meet hashrate target.
Another Chinese ASIC spotted on the web: Flying Fish D18 with 340 GH/s at 180 W costing 2,200 CNY (~340 USD). (asicok.comtranslated, also on asicminervalue)
dcrASIC team posted a farewell letter. Despite having an awesome 16 nm chip design, they decided to stop the project citing the saturated mining ecosystem and low profitability for their potential customers.

Integrations

bepool.org is a new mining pool spotted on dcred.eu.
Exchange integrations:
Two OTC trading desks are now shown on decred.org exchanges page.
BitPro payment gateway added Decred and posted on Reddit. Notably, it is fully functional without javascript or cookies and does not ask for name or email, among other features.
Guarda Wallet integrated Decred. Currently only in their web wallet, but more may come in future. Notable feature is "DCR purchase with a bank card". See more details in their post or ask their representative on Reddit. Important: do your best to understand the security model before using any wallet software.

Adoption

Merchants:
BlueYard Capital announced investment in Decred and the intent to be long term supporters and to actively participate in the network's governance. In an overview post they stressed core values of the project:
There are a few other remarkable characteristics that are a testament to the DNA of the team behind Decred: there was no sale of DCR to investors, no venture funding, and no payment to exchanges to be listed – underscoring that the Decred team and contributors are all about doing the right thing for long term (as manifested in their constitution for the project).
The most encouraging thing we can see is both the quality and quantity of high calibre developers flocking to the project, in addition to a vibrant community attaching their identity to the project.
The company will be hosting an event in Berlin, see Events below.
Arbitrade is now mining Decred.

Media

stakey.club: a new website by @mm:
Hey guys! I'd like to share with you my latest adventure: Stakey Club, hosted at stakey.club, is a website dedicated to Decred. I posted a few articles in Brazilian Portuguese and in English. I also translated to Portuguese some posts from the Decred Blog. I hope you like it! (slack)
@morphymore translated Placeholder's Decred Investment Thesis and Richard Red's write-up on Politeia to Chinese, while @DZ translated Decred Roadmap 2018 to Italian and Russian, and A New Kind of DEX to Italian and Russian.
Second iteration of Chinese ratings released. Compared to the first issue, Decred dropped from 26 to 29 while Bitcoin fell from 13 to 17. We (the authors) restrain ourselves commenting on this one.

Community Discussions

Community stats: Twitter followers 40,209 (+1,091), Reddit subscribers 8,410 (+243), Slack users 5,830 (+172), GitHub 392 stars and 918 forks of dcrd repository.
An update on our communication systems:
Jake Yocom-Piatt did an AMA on CryptoTechnology, a forum for serious crypto tech discussion. Some topics covered were Decred attack cost and resistance, voting policies, smart contracts, SPV security, DAO and DPoS.
A new kind of DEX was the subject of an extensive discussion in #general, #random, #trading channels as well as Reddit. New channel #thedex was created and attracted more than 100 people.
A frequent and fair question is how the DEX would benefit Decred. @lukebp has put it well:
Projects like these help Decred attract talent. Typically, the people that are the best at what they do aren’t driven solely by money. They want to work on interesting projects that they believe in with other talented individuals. Launching a DEX that has no trading fees, no requirement to buy a 3rd party token (including Decred), and that cuts out all middlemen is a clear demonstration of the ethos that Decred was founded on. It helps us get our name out there and attract the type of people that believe in the same mission that we do. (slack)
Another concern that it will slow down other projects was addressed by @davecgh:
The intent is for an external team to take up the mantle and build it, so it won't have any bearing on the current c0 roadmap. The important thing to keep in mind is that the goal of Decred is to have a bunch of independent teams on working on different things. (slack)
A chat about Decred fork resistance started on Twitter and continued in #trading. Community members continue to discuss the finer points of Decred's hybrid system, bringing new users up to speed and answering their questions. The key takeaway from this chat is that the Decred chain is impossible to advance without votes, and to get around that the forker needs to change the protocol in a way that would make it clearly not Decred.
"Against community governance" article was discussed on Reddit and #governance.
"The Downside of Democracy (and What it Means for Blockchain Governance)" was another article arguing against on-chain governance, discussed here.
Reddit recap: mining rig shops discussion; how centralized is Politeia; controversial debate on photos of models that yielded useful discussion on our marketing approach; analysis of a drop in number of transactions; concerns regarding project bus factor, removing central authorities, advertising and full node count – received detailed responses; an argument by insette for maximizing aggregate tx fees; coordinating network upgrades; a new "Why Decred?" thread; a question about quantum resistance with a detailed answer and a recap of current status of quantum resistant algorithms.
Chats recap: Programmatic Proof-of-Work (ProgPoW) discussion; possible hashrate of Blake-256 miners is at least ~30% higher than SHA-256d; how Decred is not vulnerable to SPV leaf/node attack.

Markets

DCR opened the month at ~$93, reached monthly high of $110, gradually dropped to the low of $58 and closed at $67. In BTC terms it was 0.0125 -> 0.0150 -> 0.0098 -> 0.0105. The downturn coincided with a global decline across the whole crypto market.
In the middle of the month Decred was noticed to be #1 in onchainfx "% down from ATH" chart and on this chart by @CoinzTrader. Towards the end of the month it dropped to #3.

Relevant External

Obelisk announced Launchpad service. The idea is to work with coin developers to design a custom, ASIC-friendly PoW algorithm together with a first batch of ASICs and distribute them among the community.
Equihash-based ZenCash was hit by a double spend attack that led to a loss of $450,000 by the exchange which was targeted.
Almost one year after collecting funds, Tezos announced a surprise identification procedure to claim tokens (non-javascript version).
A hacker broke into Syscoin's GitHub account and implanted malware stealing passwords and private keys into Windows binaries. This is a painful reminder for everybody to verify binaries after download.
Circle announced new asset listing framework for Poloniex. Relevant to recent discussions of exchange listing bribery:
Please note: we will not accept any kind of payment to list an asset.
Bithumb got hacked with a $30 m loss.
Zcash organized Zcon0, an event in Canada that focused on privacy tech and governance. An interesting insight from Keynote Panel on governance: "There is no such thing as on-chain governance".
Microsoft acquired GitHub. There was some debate about whether it is a reason to look into alternative solutions like GitLab right now. It is always a good idea to have a local copy of Decred source code, just in case.
Status update from @sumiflow on correcting DCR supply on various sites:
To begin with, none of the below sites were showing the correct supply or market cap for Decred but we've made some progress. coingecko.com, coinlib.io, cryptocompare.com, livecoinwatch.com, worldcoinindex.com - corrected! cryptoindex.co, onchainfx.com - awaiting fix coinmarketcap.com - refused to fix because devs have coins too? (slack)

About This Issue

This is the third issue of Decred Journal after April and May.
Most information from third parties is relayed directly from source after a minimal sanity check. The authors of Decred Journal have no ability to verify all claims. Please beware of scams and do your own research.
The new public Matrix logs look promising and we hope to transition from Slack links to Matrix links. In the meantime, the way to read Slack links is explained in the previous issue.
As usual, any feedback is appreciated: please comment on Reddit, GitHub or #writers_room. Contributions are welcome too, anything from initial collection to final review to translations.
Credits (Slack names, alphabetical order): bee and Richard-Red. Special thanks to @Haon for bringing May 2018 issue to medium.
